A Chairmanship candidate in the December's People's Democratic Party's National convention and a member of the Board of Trustees, Professor Tunde Adeniran, has defected from the party and joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP). Professor Adeniran confirmed this to newsmen after a memorandum of understanding was signed between himself and the SDP group.
Professor Adeniran, who lost the chairmanship battle to Prince Uche Secondus, has not been seen around any PDP activities since the convention was concluded. He alleged massive malpractices in the convention that produced Prince Secondus' NWC. Professor Adeniran also confirmed a member of the PDP's BOT, Professor Jerry Gana have also joined the SDP. Professor Gana was in support of Professor Adeniran's ambition to lead the PDP but failed. Adeniran said he left PDP because of impunity and imposition that have characterized the party.
Both Professors Gana and Adeniran are founding members of the People's Democratic Party, according to the current PDP Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, who rued their loss to SDP. He said he expected them to join hands with him and the NWC to rebuild the party and work together to win the 2019 presidential election.
Meanwhile, a former Minister of Nigeria Delta Affairs, Elder Godsdey Orubebe denied dumping PDP for SDP. He said he has no intention of leaving the PDP and it is wrong for anyone to link him with the exit from the party. He reiterated his commitment to the party.
