BIZARRE! LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT CHARGE CITIZEN SIX MILLION NAIRA BEFORE BUILDING A PERSONAL BORE HOLE.
BY TEMITOPE ADEBIYI
In a bid to increase Lagos state IGR, the government has gone in an unthinkable manner to charge a citizen a whooping sum of N5,757,187.50 to have a bore hole dug in his facility. Mr Akinbi Ajisafe who made the paper work public on twitter said "In a state you are not providing water, you want to charge me for my own generated water" reacting to that, Dr Joe Abah former Director-General, Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) said "This is new and i am yet to think it through. Lagos state wants to charge a license fee for boreholes and charge a fee to people that generate their own water"
Water which is recognised by United nations as a basic right is one basic amenities that Nigerian leaders have failed to provide for her citizens over the yeas. It is not to be forgotten so soon that at a time, Benue state too came up with the idea of charging her citizens who owned a power generating set, using fixing of Ozone layer as a justification. This damaging development is set to discourage people with the plans of having a personal bore hole back out from the plan.
