President Muhammadu Buhari has, on Tuesday, declared that the decision of the National Executive Council of the All Progressive Congress that extended the tenure of the National chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and other elected officers of the party by one year, as illegal and that it contravenes both the constitution of the party and Nigeria. He cited Article 17 Sub-section 1 of the Party constitution which recommends a 4-year tenure for all elected officials.
He warns the party NEC against contravening the party's constitution and advised that the officers present themselves for election as the Nigerian constitution has stipulated. This is to avoid further grievances within the party and litigations.
