An Akure High court has sentenced three Adeyemi college of education Ondo state students named Ibijole Oludayo that goes by the nick Malawi and one other Otuyemi Tosin and Ogundeji Festus to life imprisonment and seven years respectively having been found guilty of a rape offence.
The said students who pleaded not guilty to the offence were said to have raped some female students in the school as a part of an initiation process of being ushered into a cult group in the school. The bizzare act was later reported and legal actions were taken.
One of the victim who testified as a prime witness, Lola George said she was take away on a motorcycle by the rapists to an unknown location where she was raped and was threatened to be shot as the perpetrators had in their possession guns. She further said she was taken back to the school premises later that same night.
Another witness, Abigeal Akintolayo also testified to being a victim of rape carried out by the same culprits. She added that one of the culprit who was her boyfriend had invited her over but, to her dismay, she met four other guys who took turn to raped her in spite of her pleas and wails. She confirmed that she was afterwards shown something that looks fetishs and told she was already initiated into a cult group.
When asked the first witness why she didn’t raise an alarm when she was dropped back in school, she admitted she had to keep mute out of fear having been warned never to say anything about the unfortunate incidence.
Justice O.O Akeredolu who was the presiding judge convicted the accused based on witnesses report and evidences of medical reports brought before the court. Following their conviction, Akeredolu sentenced the first and the second accused person to a life imprisonment while the third accused person was sentenced to seven years imprisonment.
