Under the leadership of Amaju Pinnick, a renowned leader who is also a perfectionist, a lot of revolution have happened. From the unprecedented qualification campaign to the change of leadership of CAF. The sweetest, undoubtedly, is the sponsorship deal signed with The Aiteo Group, who have shown so much support and thrown their weight behind the Federation helping them achieve this beautiful image our football enjoy worldwide. Monday, 19th February, 2018 was another day to achieve another feat for the football federation under Pinnick's administration. The inaugural NFF Best Football Awards 2018 held at the Èko Hotel and Suites, with the FIFA senior executives in attendance led by the revolutionary President himself, Gianni Infantino. It was a night of glamour and glitz. The event hosted by popular comedian, Bovi, had in attendance many football icons, both present and past. Christian Chukwu, Austin "Jay Jay" Okocha, Segun Odegbami, Emmanuel Okala, Daniel Amokachi, Garba Lawal, Ike Shorunmi, to name a few, also graced the wonderful occasion. NFF President, Amaju Pinnick thanked the Sports Minister for the support received so far and did not fail to appreciate the presence of the FIFA president and also CAF president, who also was in attendance. He also had special words for The Aiteo Group, who championed the birth of a New image for the Nigerian football. Various awards given out include the young female footballer for 2017 won by Rashidat Ajibade. The Best female footballer was awarded to Asisat Osoala, who is also the African female footballer of year. The Supporters Club of the year went to Elkanemi Warriors Supporters Club. The female Coach of the year, Ann Chijiene. Male Coach of the year, Kennedy Boboye. There were lifetime achievement awards given to the players who played in the early 80s led by Christian Chukwu. Also all-time team of legends were announced which had a blend of the oldies and recently past generations with Ann Chijiene chosen to man the post ahead of Peter Rufai. The high point of the award was the announcement of the Male Best footballer of the year won by Victor Moses. The award was received by Alhaji Shehu Dikko on his behalf because Moses has a club engagement in the Champions League tomorrow night.
There were also performances from Simi, Tiwa Savage, Falz,Reekardo Banks, Kiss Daniel, Patoranking and Darey to serenade the night. Asides the technical problem that marred the event, Omission of Late Rashidi Yekini who scored Nigeria’s first goal at the World Cup, and Late Samuel Okwparaji who died while on national assignment from the list of the Legendary Eleven was another low point for the organizers. But in all, good times are indeed here for the Nigerian football world and with the current set up at The NFF, with Aiteo backing them, it sure will linger a more longer. By Akinwande Oluwagbenga
