As the 2017/2018 English premiership is about to come to an end, with the winner of this season already decided, the only available consolation for the top teams is making it into next season’s biggest club football competition in Europe. With the 3rd and 4th position still up for grab, Liverpool who is currently 3rd just dropped 2 points against Westbromich Albion, leaving them with 71 points having played 35 matches. Last season’s defending champion who is currently struggling to make it into the top 4 stand as the closest rival to drop them off the spot as Tottenham hotspur which currently occupies the 4th position with a game at hand is likely to level on the same point with the Merseyside team and possibly clinch the 3rd position. If Chelsea also wins it’s outstanding game, the gap between the 2005 champions league winners and the 2012 champions league winner will be reduced to 5 points.
Wth 3 games to go, and Liverpool having to face the hurdle of a 2 legged champions league semi final against AS Roma, it is of high likelyhood for the Anfield occupiers to drop point. With both Chelsea and Liverpool having one more game to play against each other on the 6th of May, that might end up becoming the game that determines who occupies the final spot for a champions league qualification as, if Liverpool lose a game before their trip to Stamford bridge with Chelsea also winning theirs , a victory for the London side puts them on 72 points with Liverpool on 71 points which positions them a point above Liverpool.
