Real Madrid put aside their unimpressive run in the League to put themselves in a comfortable position for a spot in the UEFA Champions league Quarter finals.
Madrid started the game on a high, trying to unsettle the visitors. The wasteful home side were later to be punished by Rabiot few minutes after Cristiano Ronaldo failed to convert a through pass from Mercelo when he opened scoring in the 33rd minutes with a sublime finish.
Madrid got the much needed equalizer just before the break when Tony Kroos was held back in the Penalty box after a resulting corner kick from an earlier Benzema’s strike. Ronaldo converted from the spot kick.
Both sides in the second half made attempts to get the second goal with the Madrid side having more of the chances. It finally paid off after a defensive error gifted Ronaldo his 5th goal in seven matches.
A slight deflection moments later, added to Madrid’s advantage.
The holder takes the advantage to Paris in the second leg coming up on March 6.
