The latest Corruption Perception Index (CPI) released by Transparency International (TI) has shown Nigeria slipping down a further 12 places from previous year, ranking 148 out of 180 in the world. This will come as a blow to the Muhammadu Buhari led administration who have championed the fight against corruption in Nigeria.
The latest ranking released on Wednesday gave Nigeria a score of 24/100. Where 0 is highest corrupt and 100, the least corrupt. This ranking will dampen the trust reposed in the anti-corruption fight of the APC led administration, no doubt. Though, many previous public officials have been arrested and arraigned, some assets and cash have been recovered. Many have accused the President of shielding his aides and appointees from corruption prosecution with the NHIS boss, the latest of the list.
It would be interesting to see how the government receives this ranking and how the fight is going to be intensified.
