The Delta State Police Command have made a positive headway in ending criminal activities in the state when it accosted a group of armed robbery and kidnapping syndicate in the state. The group, led by a clergy Reverend Ignatius Ogboi who pastors one of the uniformed churches in Mbiri, a town in Ika North East local government, was arrested at his residence in Umunede. Found in his house were one loaded English Made Double Barrel Gun, threethousand eight hundred and seventy one live cartridges, someprohibited drugs, four million naira cash, three hundred dollars,some amount of fake naira in different denominations and others. Parading the suspect at the Command Headquarters in Asaba, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Muhammad Mustafa affirmedthat the Reverend had been the leader of a Syndicate group whospecializes in sponsoring kidnapping and armed robbery operationswithin Agbor, Umunede and environs.He said investigations are still being carried on to arrest other members of the syndicate.
While being questioned by journalists, the clergyman confessed he had been involved in illegal sales of firearms and ammunitions and was planning to donate them to the vigilante groups in the community before he was arrested. Reverend Ogboi confirmed that he had been in the ministry since 1996, he also runs a pharmaceutical store in the Umunede surburb. He however regrets his actions and hopes to have a second chance to right his wrongs.
