The National Coordinator; student cooperative multipurpose initiative a National Students’ Social welfare project, Adetolaju Victor has said the scheme which is aimed at revamping the social welfare of the student population is going to go a long way in helping a lots of students who are struggling economically in Nigeria Campuses.
In a Chat with one of Ataaoja’s correspondents Miss Aduragbemi Omoge, Mr Victor narrates that the scheme already has a growing influence in over 20 different tertiary institutions with an official recognition by the management of Adeyemi College of Education Ondo. He lamented the hardship students are being subjected to across the country due to lack of proper welfare packages from both the Government and the University management . He however assured that the scheme is ready to fill the embarrassing neglect and provide the needed social welfare packages. He went further to explain that subsidzing food cost for students is a one their aims. He gave an example of Rice being bought at the rate 600 Naira in general market but being sold for 500 Naira at the students’ quick store.
He maintained that even though the scheme is being run like a cooperative society, it is still opened to sponsorship from private individuals or investors.
He however, assured students of a calm in their economical storm as the Ministry of Commerce has approved the SCMI’s registration and issued a certificate of registration as such, more programs are to be brought on board for the benefit of the Nigerian students.
