Akinwande Gbenga Students of Medicine and Surgery, Psychology, Nursing, Dentistry and Microbiology at the University of Ibadan have taken to social media to express their disappointment at what they described as illegal and unnecessary eviction from their various hostels in the citadel of learning. This followed a Stay-At-Home protest the students embarked on to show their rejection for the massive hike in the new fees to be paid. The school authorities had earlier sent out a communication on the new fees to be paid by students including professional fees which went up in excess of 1000%. The students vowed not to be cowed into suppression until the illogical fees are reviewed downwards. Some of the students who chatted with Ataaoja said so many students are on the verge of dropping out of school due to inability to meet up with such huge payment. They said education is supposed to be affordable but the authorities are bent on making it too expensive. They called on well-meaning Nigerians and alumni of the college to add their voices to the protest. It will be recalled that there was, recently, a growing concern about number of medical doctors leaving the country to foreign countries to practice.
